APAYA - ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN YOUTH ALLIANCE

Since 1994, the mission of the Asian Pacific American Youth Alliance has been to support and encourage high school youth to become an alliance of community leaders learning about and educating their peers on the vast and vibrant Asian/Pacific American experience — history, arts, culture, identity, and current events.

A free program sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at New York University and led by A/P/A and community volunteers, APAYA met weekly throughout the school year, and monthly for special leadership and workshop facilitation training. These meetings resulted in the creation of a free, all-day forum at NYU planned and led by APAYA and open to the high school youth and educator communities in New York City and neighboring areas.

Fifteen years later, on April 4, 2008, APAYA appropriately named its last forum, "Down But Not Out." Recognizing that times and our youth communities and their needs have changed over the years, APAYA as we know it will no longer run; however, we also recognize the tremendous value and experiences that APAYA provided not only our youth, but their families, the volunteers, our communities, and our educators. So through these pages (in progress), we document APAYA's history, its impact and educational resources. We welcome you to read them. Use them. Keep the APAYA mission going.

All APAYA alumni are encouraged to complete and return a 15 year anniversary survey.
